Workers’ Compensation Insurer Responses to COVID-19

Speaker Bios

Pamela Ahr is a Regional Supervisor for Safety-Health at the State Accident Insurance Fund (SAIF). SAIF Corporation is Oregon's not-for-profit, state-chartered workers' compensation insurance company. SAIF issues almost half of the policies in Oregon and provides coverage to more than 600,000 workers. Pam earned a BS in Human Resource Management from Arizona State University and a MBA from the University of Oregon.

Brandon Jones has served as Director of Safety and Risk Services for Missouri Employers Mutual (MEM) since January 2011. Brandon is responsible for leading the direction, management and implementation of strategic objectives and policies of the Safety and Risk Services Department to ensure that MEM objectives are achieved while delivering effective service to MEM policyholders. He is a board-certified industrial hygienist (CIH) and a board-certified safety professional (CSP).

Kristin L. Klein joined Chesapeake Employers’ Insurance Company (then IWIF) in the claims department as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. In that role, she realized it was in everyone’s best interest to prevent injuries before they happen and transferred to the Safety Services Department. She started in safety working with State agencies and other local governments. Kristin was promoted to the position of Director of Safety Services in 2011. In this role, she oversees a team of safety professionals; setting strategic direction to best service their diverse customers. Kristin has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She holds the Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Claims (AIC) and Associate in Underwriting (AU) designations, is a Workers Compensation Professional (WCP®) and is a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP).

Lauren Mayfield is the Senior Vice President of Safety and Health and Loss Prevention for California’s State Compensation Insurance Fund. She is responsible for the provision of safety services to State Fund’s 105,000 policyholders administered through a team of 114 safety professionals throughout the state. She has 39 years of insurance industry experience, with 28 of those years devoted to occupational safety and health issues. She is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and holds an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation.

Mike Lampl is the Director of Research & Development at the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (Ohio BWC), Division of Safety and Hygiene. Mike’s BS is in Industrial & Systems Engineering from the Ohio State University and his MS is in Occupational Health from the Medical College of Ohio. He is a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE). Mike has worked in the occupational safety and health field both in private industry and at BWC since 1993.

Glenn McGinley is the acting Director of Loss Prevention Operations for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (Ohio BWC). In this role, he oversees all Ohio BWC safety and health field operations, which include the Ohio Public Employment Risk Reduction Program (PERRP), the Ohio OSHA On-Site Consultation Program, and local service office loss prevention operations. In addition to his duties with Ohio BWC, Glenn serves on several national consensus standards committees and panels for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA).

Corey Rupp is a Safety Engineer with Pinnacol Assurance, which has been providing workers'​ compensation insurance to Colorado employers since 1915. Corey has worked in the health and safety field since 2000. He earned a Masters in Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a BS in Environmental Health and Safety from Colorado State University.

Lee Wendel is the Loss Prevention Technical Leader for SFM Mutual Insurance in Minnesota. Lee has led the loss prevention team in developing best practices, resources and loss prevention strategies at SFM – Minnesota’s leading workers’ compensation insurer – for the past five years. His experience also includes over 30 years of leadership positions in big box retail including Risk Management, Store Operations and Internal Audit functions. Certifications include – CSP (Certified Safety Professional), ARM (Associate Risk Management), CSPHA (Certified Safe Patient Handling Associate).
